The Focusing Possibilities Training Program

Who can take these workshops?

These workshops are open to anyone who wants to learn to do Focusing with himself or herself, with a partner, or for use in combination with any other helping/healing/therapeutic modality.

What is involved?

The Focusing Possibilities Training Program consists of a series of four, 2-day weekend workshops. The purpose of this integrated program is to build your Focusing skills and abilities. Based on the training program of Ann Weiser Cornell and Inner Relationship Focusing, all levels come with a detailed manual to support your learning and practice of Focusing.

After completing the four levels, you may apply for the Focusing Teacher Certification program, but the levels themselves are not about teaching, they are about your Focusing.

Level One: The Inner Relationship

In this workshop, you will learn how to bring awareness into your body and sense the subtle ways that your inner being is communicating with you. Build trust in this inner relationship as you create a safe and nurturing environment within. Learn the first important skills of holding Presence in a Focusing partnership.
Prerequisite: an individual guided session

Level Two: The Path of the Companion

In this workshop, you will learn how to be a more facilitative companion to the Focusing process in yourself and in another. Learn more advanced listening skills, which support the Focuser’s ability to stay with present awareness and a “leading in” process to help the Focuser start the session. The ability to Focus alone continues to develop.
Prerequisite: Level One with any teacher

Level Three: The Guide’s Journey

In this workshop, you will learn how to hold the session for the Focuser in a gentle and empowering way and learn to offer suggestions without intruding. Your understanding of the Focusing process deepens as you learn to make contact with a felt sense, keep it company and listen while holding Presence.
Prerequisite: Level two with any teacher

Level Four: The Center of the Maze

In this workshop, you will learn a compassionate approach to blocks, inner critics, thoughts and distractions and “resistance.” You will learn what to do when your companion feels “nothing” or “too much.” Learn to sense when to let go of rules, recognize exceptions and go with the flow.
Prerequisite: Level three with any teacher.

Using Focusing, Jeffrey helped me to listen compassionately to the different voices inside myself that were full of anger and sadness and to acknowledge that these feelings were a part, but not the whole of me. For the first time in my life I was able to begin accepting myself as a whole, emotionally complex person – not to just focus on certain aspects – and understand how important it is to take some time and actively take in how I am feeling at any moment.
